We had an appetizer cook-off called – Saucy Chef – this weekend. Basically, all of the men made an appetizer and the women acted as judges. It was a load of fun. Great to get together in the dead of winter, have some vino and a friendly competition.
My brother-in-law Doug came up with the idea and my brothers, brother-in laws and nephews were the contestants. There were eight contestants and eight judges.
The appetizers were scored on a 1 to 5 scale based on taste and presentation. The overall winner gets to host the next competition. Uncle Greg won with his Pheasant Bites with Horseradish sauce. These were small bite sized chunks of pheasant, wrapped in bacon, that were dipped in a creamy horseradish sauce. Key point: He went hunting last year and bagged the pheasant. And he had all kinds of feathers and other cool pheasant parts decorating the app. Plus, he dressed in orange hunting gear to present the dish.
You could plan your own cook-off and the possibilities are endless: ethnic foods, kids, teams or using a specific ingredient like Iron Chef. The judges had as much fun as the contestants. Here is a rundown
